Cardwell & Cardwell is a small law firm composed of a father, Vernon E. Cardwell, and son, V. Elliott Cardwell, Jr., who were both born and raised in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Both attorneys practice exclusively in the Rockingham County Justice Center located at 170 Hwy 65 in Reidsville, North Carolina and share over 50 years of combined legal experience practicing in the criminal justice system.

Attorney Profiles
Vernon E. Cardwell
Vernon E. Cardwell is a lifelong resident of Rockingham County. He served in the United States Air Force and is a graduate of High Point University and Wake Forest School of Law. He has practiced law in Madison, North Carolina since 1970. During that period of time he has established a solid general practice with a heavy emphasis on criminal defense.
From murder cases to routine speeding citations, he is one of the most trusted and experienced attorneys in the Rockingham County Court system. He has held the highest rating for professionalism and ethics (AV) given by Martindale-Hubbell for over 25 years.
He was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina and the United States Supreme Court in 1971 and 1980, respectively. He is a former president of the Rockingham County Judicial Bar and is currently a member of the North Carolina State Bar and the North Carolina Bar Association.
V. Elliott Cardwell, Jr.
V. Elliott Cardwell, Jr. has resided in Rockingham County for most of his life. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and completed his Juris Doctorate at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Prior to graduation, he interned with the Guilford County District Attorney’s Office where he gained experience prosecuting criminal offenses in District Court. He was admitted to practice law in the state of North Carolina in 2007 and has worked in the Rockingham County Court system since that time.
His practice areas include traffic law, juvenile law, child protective service petitions, child support defense, and criminal defense in both District and Superior Court. He was elected as president of the 17A Judicial Bar for the 2010 calendar year. Additionally, he is currently involved in numerous civic organizations in Rockingham County, as well as the North Carolina Bar Association.
